Here’s how not to work in The Thank You Economy! With a Free Gary Vanynerchuk Book

For those that know me, you’ll recognize that I’m a bit of geek.  I love, tech, science and tend to like comic books.  I’m not avid reader of them, I don’t collect them, but if a shiney brightly covered comic crosses my path I’m most likely going to pick it up and look at it.

So this is where my story really begins and why someone will get a free book out of this.

Yesterday I’m at Chapter’s, it’s like a Borders bookstore but in Canada and not bankrupt yet.  It has a Starbucks and picking up a few gift cards for clients. I thought while I was there I would pick up the Gary Vaynerchuk’s new book, “The Thank You Economy”, recommended by both Gary @garyvee and @techsavvyagent. (great Keynote at Re/Max Gary).  Anyway, I was browsing, or maybe loitering in the eyes of the store manager.  I was over at the comic book section (browsing intently and heavily), and he politely, yet directly informed me that there was new comic store that had opened in another area of town and perhaps I should go there to read the comics.    I was blown away, I have membership card, I purchase at least two of three books a month, he’s sold them to me, in fact, he renewed my membership card three weeks ago!

I thought they liked the fact I enjoyed spending time in the store hanging out.  I won’t ever buy a comic anyway, but I buy other crap from them all the time.  In fact I was buying something there that very day.  Yet he wanted me to leave!

Anyway in honor of my last purchase from Chapter’s at least for a while, I’ll buy my book on my Ipad now, I’m going to give away the copy of Gary’s new book I bought in the store.  It’s my way of saying thank you to Chapter’s for showing me what they really think of me and my money.   And to set the record straight, I did shower, had clean clothes and brushed my hair, did not use foul language and had both shoes and a shirt on.
